Internet-Connected Drones

These Unmanned Drones Could Promise Improved Connectivity

Verizon is developing and testing a new range of unmanned drones as part of a collaboration with AT&T and a clear attempt to test the potential of Internet-connected drones for a number of applications.

Part of a project dubbed 'Airborne LTE Operations', these Internet-connected unmanned drones will be connected to a 4G network. The drones are fitted with special wireless modules that allows them to stay connected even when they're flying around.

The most obvious application of these unmanned drones would be to improve 4G penetration, but the technology could be of great use in emergency response situations, with search and rescue workers able to benefit from exchanging information with mobile aircraft while carrying out their work.
