Antonio Santín Presents a New Collection of Intricate Rugs

Artist Antonio Santín presents a look at hyperreal oil paintings that are transformed into ornate rugs. All of these can be seen at the Marc Straus Gallery -- each carpet has an intricate look with patterns and palettes that form a dynamic visual. It took a meticulous effort to create as it was all applied with a modified syringe and thousands of small brushstrokes that fused textile and paint together.

The largest of the collection measures over seven feet across and it is detailed with patterns of floral and geometric shapes. Thousands of paint dots are applied to capture the warp and weave of the patterning that took 9 months to complete before being finished with a black glaze to depict shadows.
