DNA Vaccine Could Bring New Hope

Effective DNA treatment is the medical holy grail, it has not yet lived up to its promise, but for MS sufferers, a new experimental vaccine has opened a window of hope. There are over 400,000 MS sufferers in the US alone and for each, a family witnessing a loved one's slow deterioration.

Implications - This new form of treatment was made to fight multiple sclerosis and is called BHT-3009. The way it works is by preventing a person's immune system from attacking the healthy parts of their body. If a person's immune system starts to attack what is called myelin, then that person can develop MS. The research specialist O’Looney claims that "this is a fascinating approach to try to control the immune activity with folks with MS."
