Italian fixture designer and manufacturer Capellini has captured the essence of something one doesn’t usually associate with bathrooms and sinks. The bird-like, winged effect of their new ‘Lavabo’ design is a washbasin that is both sculpturally marvelous and aesthetically divine. Made incredibly from marble, a difficult medium to create such delicate objects, works successfully in this project.
Displaying lightness – the thickness is minimum – and dynamicity – as the pattern recalls the unification of two wings – satisfying so the want of a provocative design and interpreting a courageous choice, both from a styling point of view and due to its realization that had been accomplished with the most advanced three-dimensional software technologies. “The shaping of surfaces in a three-dimensional space – explains Giacomo Cappellini – had been achieved thanks to the performance of CNC machines. This opens new prospects for the use of stone, marble and granite in fields where more ductile materials do still dominate incontestably”.
