As a personal pastry lover I was horrified to hear of the University of Wageningen insect cupcake party.
The cupcakes were not decorated as normal cupcakes, but were instead topped with insects. Caramelized grasshoppers and meal worms were used in developing these pastries. The University of Wageningen researched and found that insects offer a strong serving of protein and to celebrate the release of 'The Insect Cookbook' these delightful, infested pastries were born.
The sources of nutrients offered by devouring these bugs is said to be catered towards growing populations, and perhaps insects will become a more common food item at more local get-togethers. Regardless, I am sure it will take quite some time before the general public accepts its creep crawling housemates as delectable dish servings.
