Designer Climbing Wall - Nendo Makes Sport Stylish

The Nendo Climbing Wall in Tokyo has undergone a major makeover. They created a climbing wall in Omotesando that fuses rugged outdoor sport with Tokyo’s fashion district. It looks like a scene from one of Jim Henson’s stories, or from Alice in Wonderland’s realm. It is a surreal moment translated into one of the most creative concepts for a fitness center. Japan’s young design house, Nendo, through its ethos, in translating everyday ordinary elements into something that’s easy to understand. It is a wall climber’s destination that’s completely devoid of its conventional materials.  Forget fibreglass stone and mock rock overhangs, nendo designed the wall to resemble a chic country house interior made-up of baroque picture frames, mirrors, deer heads, bird cages and flower vases instead. The effect is not just unusually sightly for a relatively drab-looking sport, but gives climbers a euphoric feeling of illicitly climbing the walls of a grand exhibition space.
