Single Malt Gins

Astraea Spirits' Latest Launch Combines Whisky Techniques & Botanical Flavors

Astraea Spirits' Desert is a first-of-its-kind American single malt gin and it combines the complexity of whisky with the beautiful botanical notes of gin. Described by master distiller Danielle Leavell as "a spirit that stands in a category of its own," Desert is distilled from 100% malted barely before being bottled at 57.5% ABV. By definition, a single malt is any spirit produced at one distillery using barley as the sole grain in the mashbill, and they're on the rise in the United States.

The spirit gets its name from desert botanicals like sagebrush and heather, which were included alongside other ingredients like juniper, coriander, sweet orange peel, orris root and almond meal.

The boundary-pushing Desert spirit joins similarly named gins from Astraea Spirits like Mist, Meadow, Ocean and Forest.
