It’s official: Despite the disdain many print journalists have of new media, the Pulitzer Prize Board announced today that it has expanded its eligibility requirements to include online journalism. The Pulitzer Prize Board stressed, according to a press release, that entries should come from U.S. newspapers that publish at least weekly and adhere to the highest journalistic principles. While I’m momentarily disappointed that my insightful, trainwrecktastic and pithy commentary won’t make the cut for a Pulitzer, this is a huge step for online journalists of every sort.  "This is an important step forward, reflecting our continued commitment to American newspapers as well as our willingness to adapt to the remarkable growth of online journalism," said Sig Gissler, administrator of the Prizes. "The new rules enlarge the Pulitzer tent and recognize more fully the role of the Web, while underscoring the enduring value of words and of serious reporting.
