Creepy Crawly Sammies

The Maggot Melt is a Bizarre State Fair Delicacy

If you thought the deep-fried Twinkies were bad, get a load of the Maggot Melt, which will be making its nauseous debut at the Arizona State Fair later this month. Riffing on those classic all-you-can-eat contests and bizarre frat boy food challenges, junk food consumption has slowly evolved into an extreme sport. There are more and more edible products out there that cater specifically to eaters on the edge. State fairs seem to turn out the majority of these shocking delicacies that seem designed to accompany elaborate dares. As much as an attraction as the Tilt-a-whirl, confections like deep-fried Kool Aid and the Krispy Kreme burger are just so novel that they are likely to make almost anyone's bucket list.

The Maggot Melt consists of a bun jam-packed with gooey cheese and a hefty helping of juicy maggots. Before your gag reflex starts to work over time it should be noted that these maggots are raised in sanitary conditions for human consumption. Maggots also contain a huge amount of protein, but this information likely does little to compel those who would rather keep on walking.

If you happen to be in Arizona give the Maggot Melt a shot -- I double dog dare ya!
