MIT's Living Jewelry Designs Combine Fashion with Function

Living Jewelry designs are a common occurrence in varying cultures that feature jeweled beetles and other insects worn for decorative purposes. Inspired by this concept, MIT's Vision Lab created a robotic reiteration which features palm sized bots that cling to the wearer's clothes with magnets.

In addition to being decorative, the robots are being designed to preform a surprising range of functions. With the help of kinetic movements, the wheeled robots will one day be able to crawl up to a user's mouth as a phone call comes in or toward the wrist to hapitically alert the wearer of an incoming notification. Although its current primary function is decorative, living jewelry is reflective of the powerful relationship between technology and design that can help further integrate technological convenience into our everyday lives.
