Award Show Mishaps

After Miscounting the Votes, NRG Takes Back Katy Perry's Award

Leave it to the French to do what I believe has never happened before--at least, admittedly--in an award show: Make a mistake in counting the votes and announce a wrong winner, only to correct the recipient and rescind the award a few hours later!

Yes, that is what happened at the prestigious NRJ Music Award in Cannes. The show announced Katy Perry as the winner of the international song of the year award for her lesbianlicious “I Kissed a Girl” and she went to the podium and received the award.

However, towards the end of the show the host announced that there was a mistake in counting the votes (people have been voting at NRJ’s website for a few weeks leading to the event) and that the actual winner was Rihanna for “Disturbia.”

Thankfully, Katy Perry did not go home empty-handed. She won the award for best international album for “One of the Boys.”

Britney Spears cemented her successful comeback by winning the award for International Female Artist of the year.
