Mexico's Island of the Dolls Celebrates Decaying Toys

The Mexican Island of the Dolls is essentially an island covered in the corpses of dolls in varying states of decay. These dolls hang from trees by the hundreds.

The background to this attraction is steeped in superstition. It’s said that three girls were visiting the island and one drowned. Her spirit haunted the island. Don Julian put up a doll to ward off the spirit, and these dolls have simply increased in number over time.

I think I would have to head to the Island of the Dolls if I ever traveled to Mexico—although I’m quite sure I’d be afraid to do so.
