Anna Hawkins' Conceptualizes the DC Harmony Retirement Center

— August 25, 2022 — Art & Design
The DC Harmony Retirement Center was designed by emerging designer and student Anna Hawkins who drew inspiration from the U Street Corridor neighborhood in Washington, DC. Bustling with music and art, this particular area of the city is known for its vibrancy as a cultural and nightlife hub from the 1920s to the 1940s.

Anna Hawkins designed the DC Harmony Retirement Center as a "niche retirement center" which only welcomes retired musicians in the Washington DC metro area. The space, however, is open to the outside community, as well, stimulating a more energetic ambiance. Although just a concept (for now), the act of opening up the retirement center to the outside community acts as a way to "encourage residents to be social."
