Omron's NXR-S Series Enables CIP-Compliant Machine Protection

OMRON Automation Americas introduced the NXR-S Series Simple Logic Safety I/O Block for CIP Safety as a distributed machine-safety system. It moves safety decisions closer to the point of action while keeping management centralized, helping teams standardize how they build, deploy and maintain equipment.

The IP67-rated block offers response times as fast as 15 milliseconds and reduces wiring and installation complexity. SmartClick M12 connections support power, Ethernet and I/O, while the one-eighth-turn design removes the need for torque-controlled tools. The unit also includes predefined, add-on and user-defined safety applications, plus a built-in web interface for diagnostics, troubleshooting, status monitoring and device replacement without dedicated software.

The combination of local action and central control supports multiple CIP Safety originators and major safety requirements, including IEC 61508, ISO 13849, UL/FSPC and CIP Safety conformance standards. The product reflects a broader shift toward distributed industrial safety architectures. For machine builders, it provides a scalable way to apply consistent safety strategies across different designs while reducing reliance on specialized programming and redundant devices.
