Global Delivery Platform Consolidations

Delivery Hero Has Backed Uber's $15 Billion Takeover

Delivery Hero's supervisory and management boards backed Uber's $15 billion takeover offer, recommending that shareholders approve a deal that would double Uber's global footprint and create one of the largest on-demand food delivery platforms outside China. Uber, already Delivery Hero's largest shareholder, set a minimum acceptance threshold of more than 50%, specifically 50% plus one share. As part of the deal, Prosus consented to sell its 17% stake in Delivery Hero.

The deal follows a wave of consolidation in on-demand delivery, including Uber's acquisition of Turkey's Getir, Grab's purchase of Delivery Hero's Foodpanda business in Taiwan and DoorDash's acquisition of U.K.-based Deliveroo.

This deal indicates that the industry is consolidating, with fewer, larger global players emerging to compete more directly with leading regional operators.
