Cuil Overloading, Can't Handle Traffic Edit
Time for Cuil to Cool Down

It looks like Cuil can’t handle its hype. After featuring the new Google rival this morning, I vowed to play with the search engine more this afternoon. The trouble is, it was overloading and couldn’t handle the results.

Instead of turning up some nice tourism information on Antwerp, Cuil’s search results for “Belgium” offered:

“No results because of high load” as a header, under which was, “Due to excessive load, our servers didn’t return results. Please try your search again.”

It would have been fantastic to know exactly how much traffic Cuil can hold. If they really do want to be the next Google, the new search engine is going to have to be able to handle huge spikes of traffic.

Of course working at Trend Hunter I know what unexpected thrusts of traffic can do, but you’d think with $33 million in funding, they would be able to buy a few extra servers.
