Battery-powered planes are common in the world of model aircraft, but Textron Inc., is getting ready to prove that it can work in their Cessna 172 Skyhawk electric plane.
Cessna is collaborating with Bye Energy Inc. to develop an electric propulsion system for the Cessna 172 Skyhawk electric proof-of-concept plane and expects to run a test flight by the end of 2010. If successful, the new electric propulsion system could open the world of less expensive, less polluting eco-friendly flight to customers of one of the world's most popular general aircraft companies.
