Struggling to keep up with Kindle, digital media and e-readers, the historic American book franchise Borders has finally thrown in the towel and released a turgid, heart-warming farewell letter to its customers.
If you were part of the company's now-defunct Rewards Club, you would have received the farewell letter in your email today. The death knell explains the causes of Borders' collapse: "The fact is that Borders has been facing headwinds for quite some time, including a rapidly changing book industry, the eReaders revolution, and a turbulent economy."
If anything, today should stand as a reminder of change and of chaos. Corporations who, concerned with maintaining their current market share, fight the advance of technology will almost always inevitably fall apart. It's one of the underlying principles of life: Adapt or die.
