These surreal banana posters, put together by Hong Kong-based designer, artist and illustrator Kayan Kwok, are part of a project she dubs 'A Poster Per Day for 365 Days'. The work is informed by Kwok's fascination for pop culture advertisements created in America between 1920 and 1960. The banana posters and other works seek to capture the essence of that period and merge them with contemporary design elements.
The banana posters consist of preserved black and white photos, with a banana and dull yellow background inserted into the photo to create multiple layers of intersecting visual cues. The posters feature vintage, retro, pin up and collage aesthetics, and are an alchemy of sorts in that aspects from different times and places come together.
