The Asparagus Cake is Perfect for Springtime

At first glance, I truly believed that the Asparagus Cake was made with real asparagus. I mean, Trend Hunter has seen some strange desserts before. In fact, if the Asparagus Cake had been made out of real asparagus, I'm pretty sure it still wouldn't have made it onto the top ten of the 'strangest desserts of all time' list.

That said, the Asparagus Cake is an example of a masterly use of colored fondant. It is actually a chocolate cake covered in butter-cream frosting and decorated with sprigs of asparagus.

Although the Asparagus Cake was created by Rosie at Sweetapolita for her sister-in-law Mary (who happens to hate asparagus), it is also the perfect springtime cake in general. Any special occasion would be a nice excuse to make this extravagant and elaborate Asparagus Cake.
