Technology company NVIDIA has agreed to acquire Hugging Face for $12.93 billion to scale the platform's infrastructure and expand global access to AI for developers and institutions. Hugging Face currently serves more than 18 million developers, researchers and creators, hosting more than 3 million models, 500,000 datasets and 1 million applications used by more than 200,000 companies.
The company positioned the deal as an extension of its role as Hugging Face's largest contributor of open models and datasets, noting that it had already released more than 500 models and 250 open datasets on the platform.
NVIDIA's acquisition signals how major infrastructure providers are investing directly in open ecosystems to broaden access rather than consolidating development around proprietary platforms alone.
