Coffins are no longer just a casket for the dead or even a symbol of morbidity; they’ve become a key influence for many innovative designers who are inspired by features such as their function and shape.

As the coffin represents a final resting place for many humans, it makes sense that they should reflect the lives of the people they were designed for, a great example being the eco-friendly coffins for treehuggers and Star Trek coffins for the geek set.

Other designers aren’t redesigning caskets, but derive inspiration from them which they integrate into their designs, such as the Coffin restaurant.
