16 Stilt Structures

From Houses on Beams to Balancing Act Treehouses

It's not everyday you see houses on stilts during your drive to work, but they do exist and not only in flood-weary areas either.

When someone says stilts, most people usually think of the tall stuntmen at the circus or fair who walk around towering over everyone. In this case, these aren't the stilts we're talking about, although these structures do often tower over other buildings of similar size built on the ground.

One facility in Chicago that's yet to be built is a secretive research center that will be built completely on stilts to ensure the confidentiality of the studies carried out there.

You can also find stilt-held treehouses and mountain-side stilted cabins. Apparently off the ground is where it's at.
