Antonio Citterio and Sergio Brioschi Refresh the Modern Look

Designers Antonio Citterio and Sergio Brioschi have produced a collection of sleek, modern furniture under commission from luxury ceramics company, Pozzi-Ginori. The pieces achieve the elegance of modern aesthetics while avoiding the clinical, sterile effect that too many sharp angles and straight lines sometimes produce. This is accomplished through the designers' use of weight and material. For example, the bathtubs are set in large, almost square slabs of marble. This shape gives them a comfortable sense of sturdiness while maintaining clean, simple lines; Citterio and Brioschi's use of marble provides a welcome human texture to an otherwise angular motif.

In many ways, Citterio and Brioschi's work is reminiscent of older aesthetics; African and colonial Spanish designs seem to influence their work. The Citterio and Brioschi collection is a refreshing departure from the almost dystopian excesses of certain modernist sensibilities.
