Fair Trade Shea Butter

Delapointe's Products are Made by Women in Burkina Faso

Delapointe produces a variety of fair trade and organic shea butter products including lipbalms, soaps and essential oils. By working with a women’s cooperative called Leo in Burkina Faso, Delapointe strives to create higher incomes for those that this social business employs. Delapointe is certified by TransFair Canada, which ensures that farmers and producers are paid fair prices. The female co-operative Leo, which is part of the Women Producer’s Union of Shea Butter Products of Sissili and Ziro, has 3,000 members in Burkina Faso, all from 38 villages.

The African shea tree is known to create soothing and luxurious cosmetics because of the oily nuts that it bears. For many rural women in Africa, it is a vital (and sometimes, only) source of income. Delapointe holds true to the traditional African production method of manual pressure or churning, so that the final product maintains all of its original natural features. Shea is rich in vitamins A, D, E, F and K, as well as latex and fatty acids. All of these health benefits culminate in a natural cosmetic Delapointe product that is extremely nourishing and moisturizing. The beneficial uses of shea butter include anti-aging, breastfeeding ointment, preventing stretch marks, as well as a flawless daily lotion.

Delapointe commits to maintaining ethical and socially-conscious principles including transparency, community development, environmental sustainability, gender equality and fair prices. Delapointe’s university campaign “Good for You, Good for Them,” aims to raise awareness on fair trade in order to improve the livelihood of the rural women of Burkina Faso.
