Shapeways, the 3D printing company, has a new co-creator for making mini-branding irons that work with a lighter. Users type in text or provide a logo and the Shapeways folks model and 3D print the information into a mini branding iron. It’s designed to click into a disposable lighter which heats it to branding temperature in about half a minute.
Using a plastic lighter for the heat and branding handle sounds a little dangerous, but it seems that putting an actual metal handle with a heat-safe grip on the little branding iron then heating it over an open flame might solve the safety concern.
