Compound Word Fails

Brunch Plus Lunch Does Not Equal Blunch

Elon James, of This Week in Blackness (a brilliantly done but highly under-updated blog), found this gem of a compound word in Seattle: blunch. As James says, “YOU CAN’T COMBINE LUNCH AND BRUNCH!”

While Blunch is the name of an acclaimed restaurant, and more recently Blunch the band, that doesn’t make it acceptable as the name for a meal. And Blunch isn’t the only idiotic abbreviation spawned recently. The Twitter era has spawned attempts at shortening everything, while simultaneously making blunders go viral.
