Next time you take your child to get vaccinated, it might be as easy as drinking a smoothie.

Leveraging the natural benefits of immune responses that originate in the gut, researcher Mansour Mohamadzadeh from the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine combined the effects of probiotics with vaccines.

His first success was a succesful vaccination against anthrax. He is now adapting the technology to fight cancers of the breast, colon and pancreas. It could also be used for creating vaccines against Hepatitis C, HIV and the flu.
