The extreme nature of ‘Aria', an editorial in the upcoming February 2009 issue of W magazine, left me speechless when I first browsed the pictures.
This is not your typical fashion editorial. There was a rawness in the delivery of the poses and emotion that I didn’t think a polished fashion model could provide. And I was right. The focal point is not a model, she is French soprano artist Alexandra Deshorties.
Styled by Camilla Nickerson in ethereal dresses, Deshorties was captured by David Sims while she channeled iconic roles such as Violetta in La Traviata and Donna Anna in Don Giovanni.
“I tried to give the clothes life,” explains Deshorties, “And cover the gamut of the extreme human emotions that are represented in opera.”
