Even someone who knows nothing of boat-building techniques will be struck by the superb quality and beauty of Ray Klebba’s award-winning designs. Each craft is a work of art with wood selected to accentuate the form. Color, texture, and visual flow are carefully planned and applied. The western red cedar strip construction is used to build sea kayaks, canoes, and rowboats.
Whether you make it yourself or have it made for you, one of these functional sculptures can be yours!
White Salmon Boat Works is located on the Washington side of the spectacular Columbia River Gorge. Surrounded by mountains, rivers, lakes, and streams, boating has been part of the culture since before Caucasian-settlers arrived.
As a pupil, you can choose weekend or weekday classes. All materials, tools, shop space are supplied. Student-builders have up to 5 months to complete their projects. A custom-built boat is an option if you don’t have the time or desire to build your own. Ray and his crew will lovingly create a dreamboat for you. If you are more independent soul, plans and kits are an option.
Each of us has boat-builder within. The process of making a functional thing of beauty forces the maker to use physical senses and offers a way to balance hyper-cyber scheduled lives.
