Photomicroscope Images Make Snow Look Cool

I've always heard that no two snowflakes are alike. Kenneth Libbrecht of CalTech demonstrates this with his photos of snow crystals (aka, snowflakes) that “fell to earth in northern Ontario, Alaska, Vermont, the Michigan Upper Peninsula, and the Sierra Nevada mountains of California.”

Mr. Libbrecht used a specially-designed snowflake photomicroscope to capture the basic shapes of snow and to show their lifecycle, if you will.
