Britney Spears, Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie came tops in the new Guinness World Records 2009 Edition. Britney Spears continues her successful comeback by being named the Most Searched Person on the Internet in the new records edition, a position that was held by friend Paris Hilton while Britney Spears was hitting rock bottom in her personal and professional life.

Hollywood power couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie scored a double win as Jolie is named the Most Powerful Actress while Pitt took the Most Powerful Actor spot away from Tom Cruise.

So how does Guinness World Records rate these positions? The ranking is done via a proprietary rating system that utilizes a 12-month matrix of data from Forbes earnings, Google, Yahoo and Factiva searches; Celebdaq share price, IMDBPro news stories and “Star Meter” readings.

“In previous editions, we’ve bestowed celebrity records based on rankings from websites such as Forbes,” said Craig Glenday, Editor-In-Chief, Guinness World Records. “Given the obvious interest in entertainment categories we decided to establish our own rating system comprising data from multiple trusted sources for Guinness World Records 2009 to use going forward.”
