Bavarian Chic

Philosophy Spring 2009 at New York Fashion Week

Philosophy catapulted New York Fashion week show goers with old European romance with a stunning Spring 2009 collection.

Heavy on the paisley, gold and flowing frocks cinched at the waist, Philosophy's ready-to-wear collection was a clear echo of southern Germany.

The Dirndl-like dresses could be likened to a modern twist on the traditional Bavarian garb, roped under the breast with thick, gold gladiator belts and hints of brilliant blue between swirling patterns of paisley draped against beige, khaki and olive greens.

Later in the collection, the inspiration seemed stem from even further south, from the shores of the Mediterranean. Philosophy introduced gowns that evoked images of Grecian goddesses robed in white and eye-popping cobalt blue togas, embellished with opulent golds.

Philosophy's Spring 2009 collection is just one of many reasons to look forward to the spring. Some more S/S 09 collections from Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week can be seen below.
