American Basketball is Gold again, Redeem Team Beats tough Spanish Team 118-107

The 2008 USA Olympics men’s basketball was trying to erase years of embarrassment in international competition, not having struck gold since Sydney 2000. The “Redeem Team” won every game in Beijing by an average of 30 points including a previous 119-82 rout of the Spaniards, it should have been a cakewalk. But the proud Spanish were not going to give up their Olympic title without a fight, the Americans led by only four points with under 2 1/2 minutes to play. Kobe, LeBron, Dwyane, and crew were not about to go home without solid gold and having to work for it just made victory all the sweeter. The Americans took the gold,118-107, with Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the U.S.A.” rocking the arena and the team celebrating like a bunch of college kids.
