Lanka Kade is a family-owned social enterprise founded in 1994 by a husband and wife duo, Upul and Diane. All of the toys -- mostly wooden -- are made in Sri Lanka by craftspeople on a fair trade model. In 2001, the company received a BAFTS (British Association of Fair Trade Shops) certification. The name of the ethical brand literally means the Sri Lankan shop.
A majority of the toys are made with environmentally friendlier materials such as rubberwood gotten from exhausted rubber farms and recycled materials and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) free materials. The products range from board games and blocks to alphabet letters, height charts and clocks.
