Australian-born artist James Tapscott has brought viewers into his illuminated world via his 'Transference' and 'The Arc' installations. Bold, bright effects are created with strands of fiber optic cables which are used to draw beams of light to 70ft x 70ft fields and wide open spaces.
Tapscott invests a great deal of time into his work. He allowed for an entire month to pass while putting on The Arc, monitoring it as it took on new dimensions at a salt lake. It eventually became entirely coated in salt, altering the colors.
In spite of the immense detail that goes into these live art exhibits, Tapscott clings to the values of minimalism and simplicity, "The forms I create are usually quite simple and elegant- without baggage." The steams of white and blue are indeed silencing.
