Cologne-based design collective DUA recently came up with a collection of lamps that look like paper, but are actually made from concrete. The deception is so convincing that it's even elegant. If they did not explicitly state on their Behance page that the lights are in fact made from concrete, most people would be none the wiser.
However, the designs offer more than just illusions. They are the epitome of crisp minimalism. A major appeal of this aesthetic is that it can usually blend into a variety of environments. Indeed, shades like black, white and gray go well with a myriad of themes and colors.
Despite the minimalist style, the lamps are quite textured. The crinkles and creases help to complete the illusion that they are made from paper.
