Kumi Yamashita is a New-York based artist who is known for his incredible ability to produce shadow art. Through the unlikely mediums of junk, scrap metal, and even cardboard boxes, Yamashita has demonstrated that there is far more to the shadows that lurk behind us.
Yamashita's mixture of light installations with mangled substances have put a modern twist on apparitions. By drawing attention to the importance of obscure facsimile illusions, the shadowy art has demonstrated that there is value in the shaded, and that this is a relevant art niche in need of further exploration.
The distinct manipulation of structure and shadow by Kumi Yamashita also serves to provide an ethereal reflection of reality. Although these intangible configurations are for the most part overlooked, these exhibitions suggest that there is a deeper and beautiful meaning inherent in this natural phenomenon.
