The Birth of Baby X Will Culminate in a Public Delivery

When a woman experiences childbirth in a public place it is generally not intentional, but the Birth of Baby X is the name of an actual exhibition planned for the Microscope Gallery in Brooklyn, New York. Anticipated as the ultimate example of performance art, the live delivery will no doubt attract great numbers of viewers.

During the month leading up to her due date, pregnant artist Marni Kotak will be in and out of the exhibition space, gradually transforming it into her ideal birthing room. She will be bringing in familiar objects such as her grandmother's bed and rocking chair, among other possessions loaded with personal nostalgia and collective symbolism.
