'Cardboard Warfare 2' is a Strange War Movie Hitting the Big Time

It isn't hyperbole when I say that Cardboard Warfare 2 is the most tongue-in-cheek independent film I've ever had the pleasure of watching. Snarky, self-depricating and beautifully directed, the 25-minute-long short is proof positive that war movies don't have to be so serious.

Directed and written by Clinton Jones, Cardboard Warfare explores an alternate history where soldiers are armed with (you guessed it) cardboard rifles and submachine guns, in place of their typical woodstock and metal weaponry. However small a visual adjustment, it dramatically changes the tone of the film -- Jones goes from a somber and respectful tone to slapstick humor in milliseconds. It's difficult to resist the premise of the independent film, which ironically takes inspiration from Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan. It may be a strange concoction of movie themes, but you're better off having a taste.
