Nerdcore hip hop is a grass roots phenomenon gaining momentum among disenfranchised white dudes who just might be more interested in World of Warcraft than women. They rap about a multitude of topics from science to computer science to science fiction.
The 2007 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas hosted a Nerdcore festival of sorts. The Divx booth became a performance arena for over a dozen Nerdcore acts. The night before CES the fashionable Beauty Bar hosted an intimate concert with the geeky talent who had flown in from all parts of the United States.
Documentary filmmakers Kimmy Gatewood and Negin Farsad produced a film entitled Nerdcore Rising chronicling Nerdcore pioneer MC Frontalot on his first national tour. The film features interviews with Weird Al Yankovic, Brian Posehn and Jello Biafra among others.
The day is dawning for underdogs everywhere as programmers and Jedi impersonators emerge from the darkness and lead their people out of their cubicles. Rock on, nerds!
