The Curse of The Tuxedo

Maria Sharapova's Outfit Instigated Opponent, Led to Defeat

'I beat Maria Sharapova because of her outfit', that is the statement which 154th-ranked Russian Alla Kudryavtseva gave after her upset 6-2, 6-4 win over the 3rd seeded Maria Sharapova. Man, it must have hurt! To put things in context, Sharapova hadn't lost so early in a Grand Slam since 2003, when she was 17 years old.

The 20 year-old Kudryavtseva candidly spoke of her dislike of Sharapova's fashion sensibility, “It's very pleasant to beat Maria. I don't like her outfit. Can I put it this way? It was one of my motivations to beat her.”

The outfit in question is a daring Tuxedo-inspired tennis outfit with shorts, that has set the sports and fashion blogs abuzz.

On the other hand, Sharapova was gracious in her defeat, saying, “I guess it wasn't my day. She just did everything better than I did. She played much better. She had nothing to lose. She went for her shots. I was just pretty tentative. You just never know what's going to happen on any given day. Some days the balls just don't bounce where you want them or they don't land where you want them to land.”

This is what real players should be like! I await more unique fashion from the sexy Sharapova and a return to form in her future tennis matches.
