Puzzle-Solving Robots

Guinness Book World Record Set By Rubik's Cube Robocracker

The Guinness world record for the world’s fastest robot to solve a Rubik’s cube was set on January 8th by a second generation RuBot. Inventor Pete Redmond from Dublin, Ireland entered confident that his robot would be able to solve the puzzle in less than 60 seconds.

The video above shows the robot competing against a human to see who will complete the cube first. The robot’s eyes are cameras that scan the cube before the process begins. Servo motor and pneumatic arms animate the solution, which it executes in about 35 seconds once the scan is complete.

RuBot’s designers have given him some ‘human’ qualities that make the many videos of him on YouTube a lot of fun to watch.
