Michelle Rodriguez gained instant notoriety for her fierce character in 'Girlfight' for the same reason that the Women Boxers photo series is considered incredibly powerful. The movie rethought the notions of womanhood and femininity by focusing on a woman's experience in a male-dominated sport. The Women Boxers photo series takes that perspective to another level by focusing on real-life female athletes.
Shot by Argentine photographer Claudia Gaudelli, the Women Boxers photo series is even more touching for the fact that all of her subjects come from impoverished backgrounds. Gaudelli reveals, "They train every morning, sometimes evenings too, day after day. All of them are pouring their hearts out for the chance to fulfill a dream, a shot at the world championship. This dream is what keeps them standing on their feet, this dream has kept them from falling, kept them waking up, training, struggling and fighting."
