At New York’s R & Company, artist Roberto Lugo presents Drip, an exhibition celebrating the lasting cultural influence of Nike Air Force 1s on basketball and hip-hop. This unique showcase centers around hand-painted sneakers with Lugo’s signature ceramic teapots, spotlighting the distinctive artwork that makes up iconic sneaker models.
Lugo’s teapots pay homage to hip-hop icons like LL Cool J, A Tribe Called Quest, Lauryn Hill, Biggie, and Run-D.M.C., featuring bold colors, intricate patterns, sculptural elements, and graffiti motifs. Meanwhile, his sneaker designs are distinguished by gold-framed pigeon tags, adding a signature touch to each pair.
Standout pieces include 'Jibaro,' which reflects Lugo’s Puerto Rican heritage with a vibrant depiction of farmers and dancers, and 'Winged Victory,' a conceptual sneaker drawing inspiration from the Greek goddess Niké of Samothrace.
Interested consumers can experience the exhibition starting on April 11.
