Toronto-based visual artist Nicole Charles’ latest series of contemporary masterpieces entitled ‘The Network’ explores the significance of an evolving social network and embraces the distinctiveness within it.

Instead of painting on a traditional canvas, Charles conducted an unconventional experiment by covering transparent acrylic panels with ink, which she then layered and bolted together — to catalyze the inception of this visionary series. The focal illustration in these paintings is derived from an editorial that paid homage to Elsa Peretti’s iconic timeless and elegant style in the 1970s. The edginess, sexuality and androgynous flair of this editorial inspired Charles to work with this photo in a whole new way. Charles’ artwork boasts a captivating modern aesthetic via combining her interests in fashion and culture, while using striking hues, negative space, multiples and layers.
