Carl attended Brock University in the late 1980’s, giving him a background in business administration. Early 1991, Carl, his brother and dad decided to open a small shop in St. Catharines, Ontario. They recognized the need for solid wood furniture parts in Germany. They continued to expand production and started to design easy to assemble furniture pieces.
What is unique that's not in your bio?
Our main focus is the design and engineering of easy to assemble -expandable wood platform beds without any metal parts. Some of our beds expand from one mattress size to the next within minutes. It usually takes longer to unbox than to assemble the bed.
What's your favorite accomplishment?
The design and creation of the No-Fuss Plus bed. We tried to create a bed that is functional, super easy to assemble, no metal parts, no squeaking and completely sustainable. It took us 6 months from design to finished product.
How do you define cool?
Cool for me is replacing anything plastic with environmentally clean alternatives like Sway - seaweed based home compostable replacements in different colours. Love it!
What is your secret to uncovering trends?
First of all listening to our customers what we need to change, improve or make better. For example many of our customers were frustrated because their beds were squeking so we set out to manufacture beds that did not squeak.
What do you enjoy most about Trend Hunter?
Love the huge variety of innovative products that are displayed on Trend Hunter and the people behind it.
What is your favorite trend?
Model Free Runway. Honestly, I always thought the models were way to skinny and looked starved.
What are your tips for writing a juicy post?
Jump right into the core of what you are trying to get across (first paragrph) Than I go into more detail and push the pace right to the end.
How do you reset to be creative?
Take breaks when you feel overwhelmed. For example go skiing or kajaking for a couple of days to clear your mind. Maybe even read a book.
What inspires or excites you?
Coming up with ideas that are not out there that help people solve a problem.
