Margaritaville Island Reserve is Luxurious with Laid-Back Hospitality

Just a 20 minute drive from Cancun International Airport, the Margaritaville Island Reserve Resort Riviera Maya should be a contender for your next getaway vacation. Just last week I got to experience this all-inclusive and adults only resort first hand.

A highlight of this trip was the exceptional staff, who upon arrival greeted us with a margarita popsicle and promptly checked us in. As we were visiting in the resort’s off-season we were shown to our room right away - a spacious suite with a stunning ocean view and everything you could need - not to mention the unique option of stocking your own mini-bar! Our room keys were also right on our resort bracelets which highlights the resort’s attention to detail and emphasis on a chill, hassle-free experience. There is a perfect cross of laid-back and luxury as you explore the resort - clean whites and vibrant blues mixed with beautiful parrot murals and Jimmy Buffett quotes gives a "no worries" tropical feel reminiscent of the Florida Keys.

After changing out of our airport clothes, we headed straight for the Landshark Brewery to have "cheeseburger in paradise" on the oceanfront terrace. Later in the week, we were lucky enough to experience a brewery tour where we learned the beer made here is exclusively for the resort - some exclusive to just the brewery itself! - and offers monthly rotations of the brewmaster’s recipes! We enjoyed a sampler of the four current offerings and especially loved the mango wheat beer. The Landshark Brewery is also where we experienced what the annual award-winning Summer of Music had to offer in the evenings, a Rock Band covering classic hits was our favourite, as well as a karaoke night.

There are three interconnected pools throughout the middle of the whole resort, with two different swim-up bar options - one with swings!) - and tons of chairs for both sun worshippers and those who prefer the shady spots. We spent our days lounging by the pool and enjoying the menu of margarita cocktails and mocktails and pool-side service - the staff at this resort truly go above and beyond. A great variety of music was always playing by the pool, with volleyball and water aerobics every day as well as the "Maragarita Tray Challenge" that had the entire resort’s attention! We were also lucky enough to experience the "Avocado Boat Taco Experience" , which was an incredible floating boat filled with tacos and delivered to us in the pool - a must try!

We enjoyed dinner at both the JWB Steakhouse and Frank & Lola’s Italian Restaurant (our favourite), both with delicious and high quality options and attentive staff. Both restaurants showcase the perfect blend of upscale relaxation in both their decor and their offerings. As we were again visiting in the off-season, the dinner options at the Boathouse restaurant offer an ala carte menu in favour of a buffet - something we found delightful as it was a more intimate fine dining experience.

Overall, our trip to the Margaritaville Island Reserve Resort Riviera Maya was an experience of total relaxation and we can’t wait to come back.
