Sweet macarons are loved for their small size and inventive flavor combinations, but these novel creations are even more of a treat for the eyes.

Using the circular shape of a macaron's top, several chefs have developed designs with edible paint after objects like hamburgers, slices of produce and pies. In addition to adopting entire themes, other artful bakers have created macarons with designs that remind of florals, skulls and the veins in marble stone. These creations are more time-consuming to make than a traditional macaron, but they are also much more interesting to look at and make even more special gifts.
