According to a 2006 study in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, nearly 20% of women with tattoos have them on their lower backs. So what? Well, should these women become pregnant and want to lessen the pain of childbirth by having an epidural, they may experience unwanted side effects. In 2002, two Canadian doctors published a report that studied this very issue. The problem under study is that a needle that punctures a tattoo might carry some ink further into the body and cause complications.
